New looks for 2011-12

I hope you enjoyed the Stanley Cup Final, the NHL awards show and the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. In the latter event, we were treated to some new NHL fashions for the 2011-12 season.

Always progressive with their uniform designs, the Nashville Predators introduced new uniforms, featuring a unique gold home jersey. In the 1970s and 1980s, gold had been used as a substitute for white when light unifoms were worn at home and dark ones were worn on the road.

As expected, the Edmonton Oilers changed their away uniforms to match what was originally their alternate home uniforms and are now their regular home uniforms. Sources indicate that inexplicably, their navy blue, red and copper uniforms will remain their alternates, complete with the interrupted sleeve stripes.

When Jonathan Huberdeau became the Florida Panthers' first round selection, he donned what will be the Panthers' new home uniform. The Panthers will be wearing red for the first time since moving over to the Edge uniform system. Interestingly, the Panthers' website has been displaying what looks like a teaser image of what could be a new logo, but the new jersey features the crest the team has worn since its inception.

Spotted at the Kings' table was someone wearing what looks to be the team's new road jersey, which is based on what is now their home jersey. This image was drawn based on only one photo, in which I couldn't see everything about the jersey. Based on the photo, it almost looks as if the Kings are adding a more pronounced tail stripe in place of the muted trim at the very bottom. UPDATE: In later photos, I was able to confirm the presence of tail stripes; therefore, the image has been updated. Also, it appears the arm stripes are slightly narrower than what's been worn on the former alternate jersey. Whether the same treatment applies to the new home uniform for 2012 remains to be seen.

And finally, a huge welcome back to the NHL to the Winnipeg Jets! It's always sad to see a fan base lose a team, as what just happened to Atlanta. But there is no doubting the passion for hockey -- and the Jets -- that the people in Winnipeg have. I predict it will be decades before there's an empty seat at the MTS Centre for a Jets game. Since the original Jets' history will remain in Phoenix, the new Jets will have its own separate entry on the teams menu at the top of the page. Jets owner Mark Chipman has already stated that the Jets' logo and uniform will not resemble those of their Winnipeg predecessors, so the uniform below will not be worn by the 2011-12 Jets. But one can only dream.
