  The Oilers wore uniforms inspired by the Edmonton Mercurys, who won the gold medal at the 1952 Winter Olympics, as they beat the Flames, 5-2, in the Heritage Classic at Commonwealth on October 29th. (Back then, amateur clubs in Canada would compete for the right to represent the country in the Olympic games; the Canadian national team would not be founded until 1963.) |
