 On October 9, 2002, the Kings wore their uniforms from the Gretzky era as they honored The Great One, who played for the Kings from 1988 to 1996. His number had already been retired league-wide. The Kings' opponents, the Phoenix Coyotes, also wore the 99 patch -- by this time, Gretzky was part-owner of the Coyotes. He would later become their head coach. |
