• Boston Bruins goalie Gerry Cheevers sets a new NHL record by going undefeated in 33 consecutive games.

• On March 25, Bobby Hull scores his 600th career goal.

• On February 9, Philadelphia Flyers goalie Bruce Gamble suffers a heart attack during his team's 3-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks and is forced to retire from hockey. Ten years later, at the age of 44, Gamble suffers another on-ice heart attack -- this one during an old-timers game and dies.

• The Boston Bruins win their second Stanley Cup in three years, beating the New York Rangers in six games.
