• Prior to the season, the owners of the St. Louis Eagles asked the NHL to either return to Ottawa or suspend operations for a year. The NHL denied both requests, instead opting to buy back the franchise and suspending its operations.
• The Detroit Red Wings beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, three games to one, to win the Stanley Cup.
